The Darfurians feel more and more secure as the mission grows towards its full capacity. Given an opportunity, I want to take this vital experience to other parts of the world where there is need to give hope to people coming out of conflicts.Crispen G.Mpande,AFDEM candidate working as GIS engineer,UNAMID,Sudan

Victor Macklenin
“I would like to thank AFDEM and NRC for making my mission possible to come all the wayfrom Southern Africa to assist the Children of Palestine, and for the good opportunity to meet and share my knowledge with other humanitarian workers” writes Victor Macklenin

From Addis Ababa to Pretoria, Accra, Dar-Es-Salaam, Nairobi, Abuja, Mali etc, I travelled across Africa to take part in specialized trainings in peacekeeping/peacebuilding. Having assembled a wealth of theoretical knowledge on the above, I was eager to serve in the field, in any of the AU/UN peacekeeping missions in Africa. In June 2008, I was called to serve as a Civil Affairs Officer with the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). There were mixed feelings when I first received the news given that Haiti is situated in the Caribbean, across the Atlantic, far away from my mother AFRICA. However, as a historian, I began to think of Haitis rich history, which inspired the liberation struggles in Africa and which I spent years teaching my students in the university, and this increased my interest in going there.

Shenard Mazengera

Although I have a background in human rights law, I feel privileged to have been part of this course as it enriched my knowledge and experience especially on human rights issues. I was particularly interested in the course as it provided me with the necessary skills and knowledge of working on human rights issues in the field”....writes Shenard Mazengera one of the two AFDEM candidates who were seconded to take part in the NORDEM training.
