Welcome to AFDEM

AFDEM supports international humanitarian operations through the management of a capacity of African civilians who are equipped with professional skills and experience suitable for peace support operations

AFDEM Mandate

Mandate
To support peacekeeping, peacebuilding and humanitarian relief operations worldwide through the management of a rapid deployment capacity of African civilians who are equipped with professional skills and expertise..

Recruitment and Personnel Pool
Developing and maintaining an African pool of civilian professionals is one of AFDEM’s core tasks. From this pool, suitable candidates for positions in peace operations and humanitarian operations are selected in close coordination with requesting agencies (United Nations, Africa Union, INGOs among others). Depending on the recruitment procedure utilized by the particular international organization, AFDEM then either nominates candidates directly or supports their independent application. To facilitate rapid and targeted selection and deployment of personnel, AFDEM uses a specifically designed web based database system.

Training
Although AFDEM does not have a direct training mandate, it is in partnerhsip with training insitutions that are experienced in civilian training for peace support operations. On registration to the roster candidates are encouraged to apply for one of the basic peacekeeping training courses offered by the training institutions. To this end AFDEM works closely with APSTA. One of our major taining partners is Training for Peace

Expert Capacity

AFDEM is the only civilian capacity in Africa with over nine years experience in rapid capacity management. It is an independent international Non Governmental Organization funded by the Royal Norwegian government.
