AFDEM is the only civilian capacity in Africa with over nine years experience in rapid capacity management. It is an independent international Non Governmental Organization funded by the Royal Norwegian government.

This civilian deployable capacity currently comprises a sizable and manageable pool of experts from all over Africa. It covers a broad spectrum of specialist and no specialists needed in international peace support and humanitarian relief operations.. 2. Outreach
In the light of a growing demand for civilian personnel, the organization proactively mobilize and attract qualified professionals through: Public information, institutional networking, , word of mouth, mission visits and reaching out to overseas nationals and Diaspora.
3. Admission to the Rapid Deployment Capacity
In line with requirements for different professional categories in peace support operations and crisis management missions, AFDEM liaises closely with end users to determine the capacity needs against which all applications are evaluated. These include:
- University degree or other relevant training
- Multi-year work experience ( international, national, regional)
- Possibly previous exposure to crisis situations
- Fluent in at least two UN languages
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills
- Very good physical condition
- Driving licence & computer skills
- Availability and flexibility
4. AFDEM Recruitment System
The administration of the expert roster is supported by a data management system designed specifically for AFDEM's needs. AFDEM recruitment staff can conduct quick and targeted identification of candidates, communicate with pool members and evaluate the roster. In order to ensure that contact and other essential information, such as availability for deployment, are up to date, members are regularly reminded to update their personal file.
