UNICEF seeks a Senior HIV/AIDS Specialist (PMTCT and Paediatric AIDS), L-5 to be based in its Office in Johannesburg, South Africa.
You will lead and support the work of UNICEF ESAR with focus on high prevalence countries in Southern Africa; in accordance with UNICEF Medium Strategic Plan, Focus Area 3, HIV/AIDS and Children, Key Result Area 1, you will support efforts to reduce the number of paediatric HIV infections; increase the proportion of HIV-positive women receiving antiretroviral drugs (ARVs); and increase the proportion of children receiving treatment for HIV and AIDS.
Your profile:
- Post graduate degree in public health. Medical qualifications an advantage but not a requirement.
- Ten years progressively more responsible experience in managing public health programmes in developing countries, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa. Familiarity and experience with management of paediatric HIV and AIDS an advantage.
- Knowledge of drug procurement and supply logistics an added advantage.
- Current knowledge of Children and AIDS issues, policies and international standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment with special emphasis on cultural sensitivity of the region.
- Excellent analytical, communication and advocacy skills, ability to work in a team and good facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of computer management and applications in analytical programmes and especially with use of electronic networks for information sharing and advocacy.
- English essential. Working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese highly desirable.
